The formula for producing Champions: You + The Chicago School
Thomas Jefferson once said that “…nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal…” In the world of sports and exercise, motivation and a mentally focused state of mind can make all the difference between success and failure. Often, people don’t have the ability to achieve these results on their own and need guidance and support from others to help them overcome their mental obstacles in order to achieve their goals.
The M.A. in Psychology, Sports and Exercise Psychology Concentration was designed for individuals who want to use psychology and motivation to help athletes, clients, students, and patients achieve their desired results. The program includes courses in anxiety and energy management, motivating teams, theory and method training, and imagery, visualization, and mental practice. This degree targets students who work as athletic trainers, personal coaches, physical therapists, and performance enhancement consultants, among others.
This concentration reflects the expectations of APA, the Association of Applied Sport Psychology, the American Board of Sport Psychology, the North American Society for Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity, as well as the published literature on the expectations of the profession.
